‘Taking shank’ s pony’.

I use that sayin g all the time. Enjoy your walk, keep hydrated and always tell some where your going and roughly when you’ll be back by.

Telling an Aussie of my vintage and upbringing how to walk is... flattering.

The canyon itself is worth a go as well I'm told. Not done it myself but done a few others off the Bell's Line that are a hoot...

Sorry. I get so used to saying it.

I live in Cumbria and the amount of times tourists ‘go for a walk’ in the Lake District and don’t tell anyone where they are going, will be back or properly dress for the conditions and end up getting mountain rescue teams.

People think it’s lovely and beautiful, but the weather can change every five minutes here.

Kinja'd!!!

Hence why we have about a dozen rescue teams up and down Cumbria.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m like that when someone gets ill, reminding them to drink plenty of water and get vitamins, calcium and electrolytes.

It’s not that different here...people behaviour wise.

I've walked in Cumbria before...can't imagine why you would do so unprepared.

I worked in an outdoor store and saw and heard it all.

A Californian family came over, walked into the store and said they needed waterproof boots and coats because they didn’t expect it to rain as much as it does. I looked at them for a second or two and said, ‘ye’,it’s how we got the lakes!’.

Five Dutch guys got out of a Mk2 Golf to walk Steel Rigg in the peak of summer, all wearing double denim (I thought they’d been attacked by the 1980s on the way over).

Had Chinese tourists go walking in high heels, with their luggage.

I do like hearing how proud some of them are for ‘climbing’ such and such mountain, that I used to walk up when I was 12. Lol.

Even in the peak of summer, always prepare for it to get cold and wet quickly.

Mind you, I often took two cans of Guinness draught, two pork pies and some chocolate Kendal min t cake.

Looks can be deceiving...it was a beautiful day, no wind (!) and 20 degrees Celsius.

Perhaps, the   issue is that this area is still recovering from a massive bushfire in 2013 which has been complicated by five years of drought. And western NSW is not exactly the lushest place at the best of times.
